The New Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is a small-sized compact SUV with more than a dozen models, offering drivers a wide array of sizes and capabilities. The CR-V is extremely family friendly and easy to handle.

The CR-V is available in the LX, EX EX-L trims, with the EX and EX-L offering additional luxury and accessibility features. The EX-L has an optional navigation system (with voice controls, real-time traffic) or back seat entertainment system, though one must decide on one or the other. All CR-V models are powered by a 2.4 liter engine with 185hp and come equipped with standard front wheel drive. AWD is an available option.

The LX comes standard with features such as auto headlights, keyless entry, A/C, full power accessories, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, driver’s seat height adjustment, a rearview camera, a full-color multi-information display, and Bluetooth phone, to name just a few.

EX models add features such as fog lights, sunroof and retractable cargo cover, among other features. The EX-L offers heated side mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, 8 way power driver seat with power lumbar, leather upholstery, heated front seats, an upgraded sound system and more.

The Reliable Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V rates very well across the board for reliability, including high marks for fuel economy, braking, roomy and functional interior, along with a smooth and unobtrusive powertrain. The ride is comfy and absorbs bumps and potholes. The CR-V handles very well, and with its compact size it’s easy to maneuver and park. The engine noise is well-muted and steering is fast. Reliability is rated better than average.

The Honda CR-V was also named a 2012 Top Safety Pick by IIHS and received an impressive overall score of five stars from NHTSA during crash testing

How the Honda CR-V Rates Against the Competition

The Honda CR-V was the only vehicle in the comparison to earn a five star rating, with both the Toyota Rav4 and Nissan Rogue receiving an overall score of 4 stars from the NHTSA. Neither the Rav4 or the Rogue scored as well by IIHS, nor made their list of top safety picks.

The Honda CR-V has a lower starting price than a comparably equipped Toyota Rav4 and Nissan Rogue, as well as a better combined fuel efficiency of 26MPG, compared to the Toyota Rav4 with 25MPG and the Nissan Rogue at 24MGP.

The CR-V also gives drivers more power than the competition, with 185hp. This compares well with the Rav4, which has 170hp and the Rogue at 179hp. All in all, the Honda CR-V gives car buyers a lot of car and safety for the money.

What They’re Saying About the New Honda CR-V

“The new CR-V is certainly an improvement over the old one. It’s better-looking, quieter, and has a nicer interior, slightly more luggage space, more standard equipment, and a better all-wheel-drive system than the previous models. Fuel economy is better too.”
Business Week

“The real achievement, though, is that, while we can detect a small improvement in ride quality, it hasn’t come at any expense to the handling, which remains remarkably sporty for a crossover. Equally impressive is the new electric power steering system, which doesn’t appear to give up any of the old hydraulic unit’s road feel or directness.”
Motor Trend

“Thanks to improved aerodynamics, less weight and engine friction reduction, the CR-V gained a couple of miles per gallon in fuel economy, despite using a mostly carryover powertrain. Honda also made the gear ratios taller to help with fuel economy, yet the car is 0.3 seconds quicker to 60 mph.”

Honda’s History of Offering Great Rebates & Incentives

Honda CR-V Incentives and rebates are a great way to save money off the already low purchase price. Historically, Honda has a good track record for offering new car buyers strong incentives. To help put things into perspective, let’s take a look at just a couple of examples.

Do keep in mind that Honda, like the other automakers, puts an expiration date on their rebates and incentives; consequently, the examples we’re using for illustration purposes will expire 4/30/12. Don’t worry, though. When you request your free Honda CR-V price quote, you’ll receive the most current available incentives and rebates being offered in your area.

  • The Honda Accord currently has a .9% APR financing offer and zero first month payment (up to $500)

  • The Honda Pilot has a low APR financing offer of .9% for 36 months

How Do I Decide Between a Honda CR-V Rebate & Low APR Financing?

With automakers like Honda trying to dig out of a recession, they are offering some very good incentives to new car buyers to encourage sales. The important thing to remember when evaluating whether to take a Honda CR-V incentive, such as low APR financing, rather than a cash back rebate, is which offer will save you the most money in the long run.

  • Most of the time, you won’t be able to take both offers, so compare the available cash back rebate to the amount you’ll save over the term of a zero or low-APR financing offer. If, for example, the available cash rebate is $500 yet you will save $1000 through a low APR financing offer, then obviously you would want to go with the low APR.

  • Let’s say your bank will offer you great financing terms, however. Consider financing your new Honda CR-V through your bank and take the cash rebate. Then you can have it all.
